Salisbury Steak with Mushroom Gravy
This classic Salisbury steak recipe features juicy beef patties smothered in a rich mushroom gravy. Perfect for a comforting dinner!
Ingredients
For the Steaks:
- 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
- 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
For the Mushroom Gravy:
- 2 cups mushrooms, sliced
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tbsp cornstarch dissolved in 2 tbsp water
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
Prepare the Steaks:
- In a bowl, mix together ground beef, breadcrumbs, onion, egg, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
- Shape the mixture into 4-6 oval patties.
Brown the Steaks:
- Heat a skillet over medium heat and cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side until browned. Remove and set aside.
Make the Mushroom Gravy:
- In the same skillet, add sliced onions and mushrooms. Sauté until they are soft and golden.
- Add minced garlic and cook for another minute.
- Pour in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, bringing to a simmer.
- Slowly stir in the cornstarch mixture, and continue to cook until the gravy thickens.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Combine and Cook:
- Return the patties to the skillet, spooning the gravy over them.
- Cover and simmer on low heat for about 15 minutes or until the patties are cooked through.
- Sprinkle with chopped parsley before serving.
Serve:
- Serve the Salisbury steaks with a side of mashed potatoes and steamed green beans for a complete meal.
